Crest Ridge Saddlery sells saddles a bit different than other companies.
We are not here just to sell you a saddle, we want you to have
a saddle that is correct for your horse and comfortable for both him and
yourself.
The only way we can accomplish this is for you to take the time to get
correct measurements and good photos of your horse for us to determine
the saddle model within our lines that will accommodate his shape and size.
There are 3 Steps to this process, you MUST do all three for us
to get a good reading to fit yout horse!
Step 1
Measurements. We need 2 measurements.
These are the 2 measurements, at the 3 inch mark and tip to tip.
How to take the measurement
Cut a wire ( Romex or Soldering wire works best
) to 16 inches in length and mark the VERY CENTER (at the 8 inch point)
with a magic marker or a drop of fingernail polish.
Stand your horse up SQUARE.
Find the horse's scapula.
Place the wire with the center mark on top of
the horse's withers, where the wire would be BEHIND the scapula.
Form the wire to the horses shape and gently lift
it from the horse when you are sure it is correct.
Measure the distance from tip to tip.
Measure the distance at the 3" mark as show above.
Step 2
Photos. You need to take photos of the horse WITH
the wire on. NOTE: We need to see the WHOLE HORSE in these photo's! Please
be sure we can see from the front of his chest to the tail! Please be sure
the area is FLAT and Well lighted.
You can Email
or
UPLOAD
your photos. Please take photos WITH wire on horse as you see below. WHILE the wire is in place at the same
angles as you see here: The below photos are "clickable" to see a
larger image.
These angles are optional but helpful.
Thank you to DAYNA & DANIEL
SCHROEDER for allowing us to use the photos from their measurements!
Step 3 Make
Graph
Take the wire and place it on a piece of graphing paper.
Trace the wire contours onto the graphing paper. When you trace the wire
onto the graph paper, it is important that you trace the
inside of the wire.
We will then give you feedback as to the appropriate saddle choices in
our lines and you can make the choice as to the exact saddle you wish to
order.
TIPS
The tree should sit immediately behind the horse's scapula, not over it.
(Although it is fine if the leather part of the saddle extends over it.)
So we must have the measurement of the withers IN
BACK OF THE SCAPULA. To find the scapula, walk beside your horse
with your hand on the shoulder as someone leads him. As the horse moves,
the scapula rotates about its axis, and you should be able to feel and
see it. Find the "Back edge" to align the wire on the withers to make your
measurement.
Place to measure
The horse MUST be standing square at all times during the measurement,
photo taking process.
The wire MUST be against the skin of the horse, pressing down through the
coat depth.
The wire MUST be located behind the scapula and be making contact through
out the 16" length.

Our fittings are only as good as the information
that you provide. Accurate information and quality photos as show above
are extremely important to insure a great fit. It is important
